Ice Age 3 review

Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs review

When Ice Age 3: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs was released in the cinema, myself and some friends decided to go and watch it in 3D and my entire time watching it, was breath taking. In my opinion there isn’t any major difference between the 3D and none 3D versions of this movie, the only aspects that the 3D version gives is that it broadens the textures and details of the animals and surroundings of the environment.

I mainly paid attention to the textures of the animals fur/skin and the surroundings, which are very pleasing to the eyes, all of the animals were created with a unique texture and style of fur/skin, which in 3D you can properly see how much time and attention was put in, into creating the animals. It was inspiring to see such a broad range of animals and environments, from tall chubby to small slender animals and from bright calm to dark spine chilling environments. I was able to appreciate the time and effort that was put in, into developing this animation, a major point of this, is the movement of all the animals. Each of the animals movement looks realistic to animals which you would see today i.e. from the mammoths movement to an elephants movement and from a sabre tooth tigers movement to a tigers movement.

The movie is about a small group of animals that are living peacefully in the ice age, which when the story progresses, the snow/ice starts to get weaker and eventually breaks, which the small group of animals end up falling through and reveals a new world. When the story progresses, one of the animals in the group (the stupid one) ends up caring for some dinosaurs eggs, which he thinks he laid. The main story is about the group of animals finding a way back to the surface of their home and avoiding the dangerous along the way. There are many funny moments in this movie and also moments of sadness and moments which show how a family can get through the toughest of times together.

The movie script is well thought out, it keeps the audience on their edge of their seats and has well placed funny moments; too lighten up the tension when needed. The models, lighting, textures and dynamics are all designed perfectly and the visual of the movie is breathtaking.

Something that Andy Love mentioned in the seminar “films shouldn’t be made into 3D, unless they help the story line”. I can see why Andy said this, as I mentioned earlier there isn’t any major differences in the 3D and none 3D of this movie, but I believe that the 3D version, brought out the true detail and texture of the movie and made it very pleasant to look at.

In comparison to this movie, I also watched The Final Destination in 3D, which there was no reason at all to watch it in 3D, it doesn’t help the story line nor does it improve the quality, texture of the movie. They simply made it 3D it makes the death scenes look more dramatic and tense, not in any way to assist the storyline.

I would give Ice Age 3: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs an 9/10 because although the 3D version doesn’t entirely help the storyline, but it does broaden the detail and texture of the movie, which are important aspects in movies.
